Eat your veggies - and boost your immunity while you\'re at it

A recent showed that green veggies, such as bok choy, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts, may have the ability to boost immunity.

Besides their high fibre content and thus ability to lower bad cholesterol, green veggies have yet another benefit to brag about. A recent study showed that green veggies, such as bok choy, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts, may have the ability to boost immunity.

According to the study, a compound in the veggies ensures that immune cells found in the gut function optimally. These cells, intra-epithelial lymphocytes (or IELs for short), protect inner and outer body surfaces, defending against infection and acting as a first line of defense.

To boost your immune system, eat more of the following green vegetables:

  • broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts (see the Mediterranean Sauté)
  • bok choy
  • kale
  • collard greens (try the Curried Collard Greens and Sweet Potato)
  • watercress
  • cabbage
  • arugula
